Think for yourself …

Does not always mean you can write about anything you imagine. Often you are given an assignment by a teacher.

That worn out topic … what did you do on your summer vacation … comes to mind.

Few enjoy writing an essay with a given subject.

It could be a place, an event, a famous person in history … yesterday’s news … tomorrow’s predictions.

In fiction there are dozens of sites dedicated to “prompts.” A word or a sentence is given and a minimum and maximum word count is imposed. It’s how flash fiction works.

It’s also how many journalists write human interest articles. Like a memoir, an expository article only needs to concentrate on one aspect of a particular subject.

Over the next few months, I will invite guests to this site who have experience in journalism, non-fiction and fiction writing. We will explore from the ABC of how to begin learning to organize an essay for school, to the XYZ of how to complete a term paper or thesis.

It matters not if you are in high school or college, you will find both the basics and the more complex methods of organizing your thoughts with my help.
